The Gordons of Manar in Australia Emmeline Leslie Gordon Emmeline Leslie Gordon was the fifth child of Hugh Hannibal Gordon from his marriage to Lucy (Lovell) Gordon. She was born at 'The Camp' in 1899 and in the early 1920's married James Henry Brown (known as Jim). Jim was a very experienced drover of horses and cattle from a very early age, and came from a remote settlement near Emmaville. He had done some long drives, and worked for a famous cattleman, Sir Sidney Kidman. On one of his drives he came to Flemington, and met Emmeline. After marrying her, he stayed there for the rest of his life, becoming an overseer. They had two daughters who died in infancy, and a son Jack Leslie Brown who was born in 1925. Emmeline died in 1927, aged about 28. Her husband Jim lived on until 1966. Family details - Emmeline Leslie Gordon b. 1899 d. 1927 married James Henry Brown b. 1886 d. 05-09-1966. They had: 1. Peggy Jean, who died in 1923, aged 2. 2. A second daughter, who also died young. 3. Jack Leslie, born 25-04-1925, married in 1948 to Kathleen Francis Carrigy, born 26-10-1925. See picture above. Jack went to school at Homebush Boys High School, were he played in the top cricket and tennis teams. On leaving school he joined the railways, and then went into timber transport, opening his own business. They bought properties on the north coast of New South Wales, and twin sons were born in 1951, with four grandchildren following in the 1980s and 90s.
